LYRICS

We packed our bags, the house is empty

We’re leaving this old life today

All our belongings, our cares and our longings

are boxed up or given away

And the road ahead is hazy at best

the sun only lights our way til it sets

and sometimes reading a map is a test

if you’ve never had reason to go

But without any roots you can’t grow

I was raised in brick buildings, used fool’s gold for guilding a heart that just yearned to be found

I’ve sung atop mountains, thrown pennies in fountains, but I’d never once touched the ground

Then somehow, you, with your heart on your sleeve, ran out the clock on my impulse to leave

What a tangled, heartbreaking web that we weave

when you’re looking for reasons to go

And us two, together, we always were tethered

The thought of forever was tempting

Then why was I lonely while loving you only?

Buried in weeds unrelenting

You packed your bags, I emptied the frames

You’re leaving our old life today

All your belongings, your cares and your longings

were boxed up and given away

And the road ahead is hazy at best

the sun only lights our way til it sets

and sometimes reading a map is a test

if you’ve never had reason to go

There were so many reasons to go

And without any roots you can’t grow

No, without any roots you can’t grow
